Robur Tea Ghost Sign
I had to look up Robur Tea - it ceased to exist a while ago. An article in the RMIT Design Archives Journal describes the company’s advertising signs, featuring a silver teapot, as ‘one of the most concerted and multifaceted marketing campaigns of its time’. Customers collected coupons from tea packets that could be redeemed, with a small payment, for a silver teapot. Over 500 signs were painted on Melbourne walls in just two years, 1929-1930. Only one seems to have survived.
This Sydney one is on a former corner shop, now a cafe.
Thanks for hosting Marlieske.
