ROSA PARKS ELEMENTARY PARK. It is closed to give the grass a chance to establish.
The field is a joint school and recreation field and is split in two so that one section can be block off for non use. The other session is all dirt. Both session used to be grass but would be totally destroyed by over use. It use to be replanted 3-4 times a year, It was designed for multiple use [school, baseball, football and soccer. Two problems are that it is seldom available for the local residents to use because organized sports have it rented most of the times when school is out and that the Recreation department allows over use primary by Soccer teams. Baseball almost never use it. Football use it a couple times a year for a couple of hours for a few weeks each time. Soccer teams use it for 5-6 hours almost every school night and every weekend for 8-10 hours with 2-4 teams and spectator at a time and destroy the grass w/in a few weeks. With a decrease budget the city replants less often. A third problem: with 50 to 200 people on the field an evening and only one bathroom guess where people urinate !
