Holmfirth Parish Church...
... back blip.
I always enjoy a walk round Holmfirth, it doesn't seem to have changed much in the last 100 years or so and I like this idea of things remaining as they were.
The small building at the front of the shot (Built in 1597 is known locally as Th’owd Towser) and means “Old Jail” in local dialect. Whilst the present building was originally designed as a church lock up, it has also served as a Fire Station, a jail and a canary house. The building had one cell which had a stone bed and a cupboard and visitors can still see the ring where inmates were chained. In 1857 the building stopped being a lock up after a new police station opened with 3 holding cells. Around 1909 Th’owd Towser became a mortuary.
