Old Castle
The National Trust's Scotney Castle boasts not one but 2 castles. The "new" house was built in 1837 to replace the 14th century moated castle, and was built using sandstone quarried from the estate - a very green build to our modern eyes!
However, it is the moated castle which is probably the main draw for visitors to the estate. It was partially and deliberately ruined to create one of those romantic garden features much loved by the Victorians. Today I was blessed with reasonably calm conditions and some blue skies to show off the castle with reflections and Autumn colours.
