295/366 Trafalgar Day !

295/366 21st Oct  Trafalgar Day !  On 21st October 1805 The Battle of Trafalgar was fought off the coast of Spain, Lord Nelson commanding the English fleet routed a combined French & Spanish fleet, during the battle Lord Nelson was killed and his body was brought back to England. On 4th November 1805 HMS Pickle was the first boat to reach England with the news of the battle & Nelson’s death. After landing at Falmouth the ships captain Lt John Richard Lapentiere chartered a carriage and raced to the Admiralty in London to break the news, changing horses & sometimes carriages 21 times he completed the 271 mile trip in just over 38 hours. The Bull Hotel Bridport was his 10th stop. This journey is now commemorated by the Trafalgar Way. https://www.thetrafalgarway.org/
