The gate to nowhere

The rain seems to be set in for the day. Here is another one from yesterday afternoon. There is a fence and then a gate behind, I am wondering is the gate is just being used to reinforce the fence though, to prevent the cows (and bull) getting out. I heard from my brother D that the bull got out of his field that he was sharing with a few heifers and into the main herd of cows. He and his few female friends have now been banished to another field!
