Dwarf Mongoose

Much as I love the big cats and red pandas at Chester Zoo, these cheeky mammals completely stole my heart today.

It was late afternoon and my energy levels were beginning to fade, and so was my enthusiasm for photography. But as I made my way out of the zoo I passed their enclosure and they were all scampering about and having fun. In the fading sunlight their coats shone with an orange glow.

Other highlights of the day were the exquisite butterflies and new arrivals Madagascan stick insects. (see extras)
