Derelict Federation house
The Federation architectural style officially spanned 1890-1915, including the Edwardian era and some of the Victorian. The style celebrated the Federation of Australian colonies on 1 January 1901, but equally it acknowledged the Australian environment and what it did for lifestyle. Federation houses typically have verandahs for outdoor living, larger windows often with decorative coloured panes, terra cotta roof tiles and wooden fretwork or turned trim.
The thing about wood in exteriors is that it needs maintaining. My example shows neglect but the piles of new and old tiles make me think someone is getting to work. There's a lot of scraping to be done on the wood - very fiddly unless there's a power tool to the rescue. This house has good bones.
Thanks for hosting Marlieske. Stay well all.
