The Gatehouse
This rather grand Palladian style gatehouse (which is now a Grade ll listed building) was built some time after 1829 when the Stover estate changed hands. What an entrance! The carriage drive from here to the house would have been very grand, & impressive. Walking some of it on my exploration, coming to the lake, home of the elusive KF that Jorgiesmum has been after, along the way to the house itself. Quite a drive! The windows are actually concrete trompe l'oeil. Very clever! The building itself still looks very solid but the gates could do with a lick of paint.
Now chained up, the A38 dual carriageway is about 30yds away on the other side of the gates. A regular spot for the traffic police to await their prey ... which must be every other motorist if you ask me. Everyone is in such a hurry. The weekend traffic has been particularly heavy. Half term, folks are on the move regardless of Covid.
