Snow Queen

This is a Silver Birch.
Betula utilis jacquemontii variety Snow Queen.

We planted it when we moved into this house fourteen years ago. Its pure white bark is a joy throughout the year.

You may notice the power wire across the top of the image. In most urban areas in England power wires would be underground. But our house is built on limestone and in many places the soil coverage is just two or three inches. So burying cables would be very costly.
