Mother Dunch's Buttocks
Eight mile morning walk with the spaniel, Mrs L, zoology daughter and her boyfriend. Starting from Dorchester-on-Thames we climbed up to the Wittenham Clumps (also known as Mother Dunch's Buttocks) and then followed the Thames long distance path round and back to Dorchester via Day's Lock. Paul Nash is one of my favourite artists and he painted the clumps (the oldest beech tree plantings in England) and the view from the hill tops many times. This is the view north from Round Hill down over the lock and the River Thames with St Peter's Church, Little Wittenham on the left.
