Parramatta Square
Melbournians don't like to hear that Parramatta is Australia's second city but it is. For the last several years, the Parramatta CBD has been in an habitual state of renewal and construction. Thankfully the many listed historical buildings and structures seem to have been preserved as part of the deal. But the master plan for what had once been a small nineteenth century town is gradually converting to a twenty first century employment, population and service hub - the geographic centre of the sprawling Sydney Metropolitan Area. At long last it is acquiring the necessary infrastructure for it to perform that role.
The CBD is becoming effectively one vast pedestrian square with passageways leading under skyscrapers, highways and railways to transportation hubs and shopping malls. Coming soon will be Parramatta's own metro system. The almost completed "Parramatta Square" is now open for business and is a sample of what is still to come.
We went down today to shoot a few pictures. There is so much more to see and photograph. So I'll be back soon.
