Escape the Country (for a couple of hours)
This is not the Seychelles, or Sri Lanka. This is Stadhampton in Oxfordshire; in October. But for a couple of hours it felt as if we had escaped abroad.
We went for a meal in the English Restaurant at The Crazy Bear in Stadhampton. Only it wasn't in the English Restaurant (which I understand is quite 'cosy') it was in a huge gazebo structure in the gardens, which also accommodated the Thai Restaurant.
It was weird, but enjoyable. It was like being in an anonymous hotel restaurant somewhere (anywhere) in the world. However, it was relaxing, and the food was excellent. The meal was a Christmas present, from 2019, which we had been unable to use when lockdown kicked off in March; but the timing was great.
We had booked for 18:45, expecting to be one of the first diners, but when we arrived the carpark was full! When we left at 20:45 it was half empty. I assume that with the 22:00 'curfew' a lot of people are eating earlier.
The grounds were decked out to accommodate socially distanced wedding parties (extra photos). Strange times!!
