African Story

I have just finished reading this book which tells the true story of a young Malawian boy who drops out of secondary school through lack of school fees within the last twenty years, but studies and teaches himself enough science to construct a windmill that powers electricity for lighting and a radio. He uses bits and pieces from the local scrap yard.
We lived in Africa for six years - in both Uganda and Zambia. - in the 1960s and 1970s and it is tragic that the poverty of the rural areas has not been affected by the passing of time in the last 40 years. It is a really inspiring tale - and I wish everyone inteeested in Africa today could read it!
