Arty and Crafty
Today I met with my friend G for a short walk around Walthamstow. This is perhaps an unlikely location for an afternoon out, but it has an interesting old part that includes Vinegar Alley, the site of pits into which the victims of the Great Plague were flung. This is so named because the good folk of Ye Olde Walthamstow lined the surrounding paths with vinegar, the only plentiful thing they had that warded off the disease.
Walthamstow is also home to the wonderful William Morris Gallery, where G and I spent most of the afternoon. Morris was a fascinating character; as well as being a textile designer, poet, and a leading light of the Arts & Crafts movement (among other things), he was also a committed libertarian socialist.
Due to getting back home after 12 bells, I had to back-blip for yesterday ... here if curious.
