Day 219 Making the Christmas cake

Today it rained almost all day.  To make the house even gloomier our neighbours are having scaffolding put up for guttering repairs and this involves using our passageway as our houses are close together.  Once the boards are on the scaffolding the gloom descends in the kitchen.
We decided to use our time usefully by making the Christmas cake and this year Violet was on hand to help.  You can see her here using the food mixer and the hands steadying the bowl belong to Daughter #1.  The steadying is necessary as many years ago Violet's mummy (aged about 8) was helping to make the Christmas cake  and mixed so vigorously that the bowl fell onto the floor and shattered into a dozen pieces and we had to start again, including the purchase of a new bowl!
