CORN HARVEST
Dunno if all of you call this corn as we do.....this is a member of the grass Family called Zea maize.
It's a REALLY big crop in the States and there is literally tens of millions of acres of it grown here. In western states some fields of corn are so large you cannot see one end of it from the other. Some of it is chopped and used for feed for dairy or beef cattle, some is shelled and ground for bird feed. Fully 90+% of the corn grown here is used for animal feeding.
There are several types of Zea maize from field corn (see above) for animal feed, to sweet corn for feeding humans (tasty) to popcorn to feed humans while watching movies at the theater. Some is even fermented into alcohol for use as fuel.
Harvest is in full swing right now but, even if the snow flies (and it already has), harvest will continue. There is often much mechanical harvest "waste" that really isn't wasted. All sorts of critters from birds to mice benefit from mechanical harvesting.
