Half Term on the Beach

The sun was shining this morning so I went for a walk at West Runton beach at low tide. I'd forgotten it's half term and I was fortunate to get the last space in the car park. No idea why so many tourists were there when the cafe and toilets are now closed, or why they seem ignorant of social distancing. The guy at the car park kiosk said it hadn't let up since they re-opened after lockdown. This afternoon I cleaned the windows at the front and the garage doors and turned off the outside taps and tucked them up for Winter.

Day 227 / Day 15 of The 3 Tiers (for my record only)
UK deaths up 310 to 45,675 (revised basis), with a 24,701 rise in new daily cases, 9,520 patients in hospital and 902 in ventilator beds. Total cases to date in the US passed 9m last night and 8m in India today. Deaths in both France and Spain pass 35,000. Wales reported 37 deaths reported today, the highest since April. Sky News is reporting that the whole of Nottinghamshire will go into Tier 3 on Friday, rather than just the areas already reported. Nicola Sturgeon reports that 1,000 people in Scotland tested positive after car sharing in the previous week - I just don't understand why people are taking the risks they are unless the trip is essential. Researchers criticise the lack of info from T&T on whether people are isolating and for how long. Police in E&W issued 20,223 fines over the last 7 months, 78% to men and 35% to those aged 18-24. I'm baffled over why people are so insistent about having big social gatherings at xmas given where the 2nd wave is heading - of course we all wish the virus was gone, but it isn't and do they really want to risk their nearest and dearest getting the virus and the knock on consequences of the spread for others and the NHS? A new study shows that vampire bats socially distance when sick - obviously cleverer than us!
