Diary Blip (Thursday 29th October 2020)

One thing they don't tell you when you buy solar panels is that the inverter you need to run them has a lifespan of five to seven years. I've had mine for seven years, and the company that set it all up went bankrupt a few years ago. Anyhow, I've upgraded to a new one and sold the old one for refurbishment at two-thirds of its cost. I've also upgraded the solar panels so they are now individually monitored and are set up in parallel, rather than in series as they were before, which should make them 15-20% more efficient. They've also been given a good clean.

After the installers were gone I found that all my broadband connections were down (apart from the wireless iPad in the kitchen near the router); something to do with installing the app that monitors each panel. I found a powerline had been switched off and an ethernet cable detached, and it took two panicked hours to trace what went where and get my desktop PC, iPlayer, Netflix and Amazon Prime  on my TVs up and running again. But they are. Phew.
