Things that go bump in the night

Mushrooms (or toadstools) regularly appear in the garden overnight,. Sometimes small mushrooms appear in large quantities. Sometimes large mushrooms appear in small quantities.  Things also fight for survival during the dark hours, see extra. I think these feathers are from a barn owl which must have had fisticuffs with something it was trying to swoop down on in the grass. I think the owl survived because there are only some feathers left as evidence.  The fate of the quarry is unknown at this time!
