Last days of freedom
I got up late (Steve went to market) and pottered around until the storm, named Aidan, had passed. The sun came out, and I walked to town. mindful that another storm was brewing: imminent lockdown for England. The devolved nations, that is, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, had already made other arrangements.
I did a bit of shopping, then bumped into friend J in a charity shop, and dragged her off for coffee at a new coffee shop, aware that we might not be able to partake of such simple pleasures again for a while. This blip shows the sign outside the cafe on the high street.
Then we did some non-essential shopping I bought a new duvet cover, and we looked at jigsaws in The Works. I headed back to the market to help CleanSteve pack up the car, and to say goodbye to Roy, the watch seller of the indoor market, who is moving to Yorkshire. He will be missed greatly.
The rest of the evening was spent waiting for the government press conference, which was much delayed.
Subject to the parliamentary vote, .England will be in a four week lockdown from next Thursday. I'll still be encouraged to go to work in nursery, but my 'non-essential' card stall won't be allowed to open. This is bearly November, should be one of my busiest months. Ouch! I hope I'll remain on Flexi furlough from youth club and can keep my extra day at nursery.
I don't know how to feel now. Mostly worried. Annoyed that decisive action was not taken sooner, as suggested by the government's scientific advisors. Concerned about my finances. I've bought in Christmas stock: how will I now sell it? If anyone would like to do some socially distanced online shopping, not just for Christmas but any occasion, my website is www.helenascards.co.uk
Commiserations to fellow blippers in the same boat.
