Happy Halloween!
This pub in Kenwood is a ten minute drive down the road from us...usually. Now it is just past the worst damage from the fire and the PG&E ‘basecamp’ a huge field turned parking lot for trucks, stacks of telephone poles and even a couple of helicopters.
It was sobering to see the damage on the other side of Wildwood Mountain across the street from us as fire ran up and over the ridge and jumped the creek. No wonder we could see flames on all sides of us as we evacuated a month ago.
During the week the highway is down to alternating one way travel as they are cutting down the row of stately oaks that arched over the road and erect new poles, power lines and cables. They’ve either moved on or take weekends off as traffic on this two lane highway was light today and moving in both directions.
I liked the ‘decor’ on the pub and a guy providing music from the back of an old pick-up for the patrons eating outside. Sonoma county is one of five counties in California that has not been able to progress to a less restrictive shutdown, so restaurant patrons must eat outside and pubs cannot sell drinks without food.
Luís, our irrigation guy brought his son with him today to demonstrate what hard work it is to make money!
I liked the cartoon in the paper this morning in which a little boy is asking his father, “Why are they canceling the one holiday where everyone wears a mask? “
