The plot episode 26 (summarised from the text of Lorna’s novel)

Michael intended to spare Guillot’s life. However, in a desperate struggle he was obliged to stab his opponent to save his own, and Guillot died from his wound on the battlefield.

Guillot's body was buried in the minster at the feet of his brother, murdered a quarter of a century earlier.
