Halloween chocolate hunt leads to mixed results
Having been deprived of his annual wander round the neighbourhood with a bag in his hand, Ottawacker Jr. was not really in the mood for doing without chocolate altogether.
We are, it has to be said, rather mean when it comes to allowing our child sugar-laden things. But we made an exception. In went an order to the "Scottish and Irish Store", purveyors of vastly overpriced British chocolates, and one full-sized bar (none of this "Fun Size" shite for us) was hidden in every room.
Ottawacker Jr. had to wander around the house searching for them. In the dark. Without a torch. After 10 minutes of tears, we relented about the torch. And turned off the soundtrack to The Entity.
After about 45 minutes of searching, he had managed to locate most of the chocolate, and so we settled down to watch Back to the Future en famille. It was either that or PBS, and anything to do with the US election is way-too-frightening for a seven-year-old.
