I think this shows preparing reed for thatch unless anyone has a better idea.
I'm intending giving you a verse a day ( tis a long poem )It will follow on from the day before.

For days the shepherds in the fields may be
Nor mark a patch of sky--- blindfold they trace
The plains that seem wi out a bush or tree
Whistling aloud by guess the flocks they cannot see
