A Postcard...
...from Watlington, Oxfordshire.
It's such a beautiful day at last - frost, warm sunshine, gentle breeze - that we went for a long circular country walk that took in the pretty little market town of Watlington. It is an ancient settlement with a medieval street plan, lots of fine Georgian buildings (many of them ex-pubs) and thatched cottages. The Town/Market Hall was built in 1665-66 and originally its upper room was a grammar school for boys. During lockdown, the ladies of the parish have knitted a lot of poppies which are now decorating the War Memorial and the Town Hall. Sadly some of the shops are closed, but the town still has a lively warm community feeling.
