A Headbanger?

G and I went for a lovely walk in Sheringham Park, exploring a few paths we'd not gone down before. We came across this dead tree trunk full of holes, possibly caused by a woodpecker. I've added an extra of a little pumpkin left out on a tree stump near a holiday park.

Day 235 / Day 1 of Lockdown 2 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 378 to 48,120 (revised basis), with 24,141 new cases, 12,949 patients in hospital and 1,191 in ventilator beds (a late update to the website again due to technical difficulties with data for England). Day 1 today of lockdown no.2 after only 3 weeks of the 3 tiers, a less strict lockdown than the first. PHE says that cases dropped last week after 5 weeks of steep rises, but underlying data gives a more complicated story re locations and age profiles. Germany and Sweden are added to the quarantine list. The PM says 4 weeks of lockdown will be sufficient - weird in the circumstances to be so clear about the outcome, particularly as it's not what the Public seem to be expecting. The Chancellor announced that he's now extending the furlough scheme until the end of March 2021, with a review in Jan (on amount paid?). I'm a bit surprised as it was a tad generous. It probably reflects that a similar level of restrictions will be needed in a lot if not all areas until the Spring, plus I bet they've realised that having different schemes in each UK nation at different times is a non-starter. BoE is providing an additional £150bn of quantitative easing. 2/3 of rough sleepers at the start of the pandemic are now in settled accommodation and an additional £15m is being provided to support them. The CEO of NHS England says staff want 3 key messages communicating: the 2nd wave is real and serious; the Health Service is prepared; it's ability to cope is hugely dependent on the spread of the virus so 'we do need your help' to reduce the spread. Millions of mink are to be culled in Denmark after passing a mutation of the virus to humans with obvious risks (hence local lockdowns) plus a risk to the effectiveness of vaccines under development. Sainsbury's warns of 3,500 job losses across it's supermarket and Argos stores, partly due to opening Argos outlets within its supermarkets.
