Humshaugh War Memorial

We are close to the centenary of the unveiling of the London cenotaph. Humshaugh has its own memorial, built in memory of those who died in the First World War and unveiled on 7th February, 1920. The names of those who died in WWII were added later. Only three from the village thankfully; fifteen from WWI.

Margaret (across the road) told me about the knitted poppies, so I walked to see them today. It was only 2pm but the sun was already low. I liked the shadows on the stone.

I did a very short walk because poor Mum has shingles. The pain in her back - which I joked on day 1 might be shingles - is indeed the wretched infection. We started medication last night (always keep a few tablets back, just in case!) and have had a prescription issued by one of our GPs. I was amused that he wanted me to send a photo of the rash - just for the records! I was diagnosing shingles when he was in short trousers, but I appreciate his thoroughness.

We watched Bake Off and Mum managed to stay awake  despite opiate pain relief. She's not at all well. It never rains but.......

I wasn't sure if I had a cold or an allergy, but I'm glad that I feel much better today. Not 100% but heading upwards.

I've been watching the US elections on a variety of platforms all day. I do hope the result will come soon and not cause unrest in the country.
