Yes - fresh garlic - by far my favourite allium!

In boarding school in the 1950's my mother would send me food parcels including the odd head of garlic. It was back when garlic was subject to flagrant racism in Britain.

On MS "Bulimba" a ship I sailed on between the Persian Gulf & Australia we had a Punjabi quartermaster who overdosed on the stuff - no flies on him - he had the most funky & toxic halitosis. Loved the man!

I always try & only buy fresh garlic - it's so much sweeter & more potent than the musty old stuff they try to sell you in the spring.
