Merrival Stone Rows

It just so happened that on a day when the National News was reporting the finds of Bronze Age artifacts on Dartmoor, which were actually found some 18 month ago, I chose to photograph Merrival Stone Rows on Long Ash Common alongside the B3357 road.

The twin rows, some yards apart run from east to west and both rows consist of a double row of stones about 1m apart. The left hand row here is about 264m and the right hand row about 182m long.

The area has a great number of other remains including stone circles, standing stones and cist.

While there are a great amount of speculation as to the purpose of the stone rows, the truth is "nobody really knows". It looks better in Large
