What Could Be MORE Silly??

Mrs W’s pooter decided that it needed to update Windows 10.  Actually Windows 10 decided to update Mrs W’ pooter - without asking permission AND with no way of stopping it!
 
After it had made a hash of things and finally finished there was NO sound.  Is this a known problem? - YES.  Is this problem widespread? - YES.   Do any of the recommended fixes work, including deleting and downloading new sound drivers? - NO!
 
This leaves re-building the system, not a job to be taken lightly, but currently all set up to go.  Just a quick check to confirm that everything is seated properly first.
 
AND it’s Saturday.
