Eddie and Jim

I never knew my Mother's two brothers as I was born just after the war. But my Granny always told me that Jim would come home as he was a great swimmer and one day he would be found on a desert island. He was a radio Officer on the SS Nairung torpedoed onthe 18 /8/1944  with no survivors.he had previously been on the Avila Star also torpedoed but he was a survivor . . Eddie was a POW in Singapore and he died of a Hernia. The Dr at the camp met my Mother and Granny and explained that the Japanese had forbidden operations so they had been unable to save him. Eddie was 24 and Jim 23.
I can't imagine now how it felt to lose both your sons in the war.
