Between fen and mountains

A sad ruin

We were back to a Zoom service today.  I then had another Zoom meeting so I was glad to leave the computer and return to walking in the afternoon. I took the abandoned path I had discovered the other day that I thought would link up with another and make a circular walk. It was a steep climb and the remains of the path were difficult to follow with the covering of fallen leaves. It took a little longer than I had anticipated but was enjoyable in the sunshine nonetheless. On the way I passed the abandoned Hotel Alexandra, built in the middle years of the 19th century and once frequented by princes and high society.  After the devastating floods of 1940 that swept away much of the village, it declined and has been abandoned for more than forty years. Nature is taking over but its exterior walls and much of the collapsing interior is given over to the designs of taggers and graffiti artists.
