Holly ablaze

A fine display of red berries on this holly tree in our front garden. Folklore has it that this is a sign of a severe winter to come but I suspect the explanation is more prosaic than that. I do know that this is a female tree that needs to have a male holly tree nearby for it to produce a crop of red berries, so we'd better make sure we take care of the two smaller (presumably male) trees nearby! The birds love the holly berries but they're poisonous to us humans.
