Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

What me, a hoarder never!

I was looking for brown paper and came across this today. I rather think it came wrapped around Kathryn's second birthday cake. You may notice the order date on it. Not being very good at the cake decorating I was very happy when I discovered that Jenners made beautiful personalised birthday cakes and what's more they delivered them too. As her birthday is 22nd December that meant one less task in the run up to Christmas and at a time when I was teaching as well. It became a family tradition and lasted through most of her birthday party years and several of Ali's too. When the restaurant closed they cut down on the amount of baking that they did and stopped making cakes, much to my sadness. They were always beautiful and delicious and well priced too. This was before the days of the creative cakes that you can get now. The cake always came delivered by the Jenners nan and wrapped in brown paper. Things changed though when Jenners ceased to be independent and House of Fraser took over. It looks rather like this paper may last longer than the store as things are! I was amazed to see it had lasted so long, it's even moved house with us twice without going astray. Needless to say, I didn't use it so it lives to delight me another day.

Sunday today and Remembrance Day. I didn't go to church as I was picking Eilidh up from her Sunday School in town and was wary about trying to do both. I probably would have made it OK, but I'd had an uncomfortable night and was reluctant to risk it.
We came home and tucked into a bacon roll each for lunch. Kathryn and Isobel arrived a little later, she'd been at her first swimming lesson since lockdown started and had had a wonderful time. She and Eilidh played in the sitting room while Katy and I sat in the garage entrance having tea for a good hour or so chatting. Jon is on nights this weekend so it was good to leave their house quiet whilst he slept.

Colin phoned just as they were leaving to say he was on his way back from supporting his mum up north, he had a good run down and arrived in time for tea, we spoiled ourselves and shared a fish supper. Watched the third episode of The Sister this evening, one more to go. Enjoying it but finding it rather incredible in many ways.

I've still got a big grin on my face about the result in the US - every time I remember it sets me of again.

Keep well and safe everybody, one problem is solved, we can fix the others too. Edinburgh and indeed Scottish numbers are coming down.
FACTS is working, keep going.
