:: Christa McAuliffe Library ::

A trip to the library this morning to collect some books I'd reserved.  The protocol now is you order online and you select a time and day to collect your books from a table placed outside.  I didn't realize what the  theme for Mono Monday was when I took this earlier but I think it fits the requirements.

This library was opened in 2016 and it's design is a legacy to the spirit of Christa McAuliffe.

 McAuliffe was the first American Civilian selected to go into space.  Born in Boston and then raised in Framingham she attended the local school and earned her degree in American history and education at the State College.

She became a  high school teacher and dreamed of one day being a passenger on the space shuttle.   She entered a NASA competition and beat 11,000 other applicants to become the first teacher taken on a space mission.

After returning from the White House she was treated as a home town hero and headed to Florida for extensive training.  Her family, friends and students along with the rest of the country tuned in to watch the take off.

~ On January 28th, 1986 McAuliffe boarded the Challenger space  shuttle only for it to explode shortly after lift off, killing everyone on board.
