Remember
The local high street was lined with poppies like this, each one with a name on it. I found this one particularly moving - "My grandad" - numbers on an unfathomable scale turned into real individuals, each connected and grounded to a family somewhere.
The service at the Cenotaph was made somehow more poignant by the lack of the public. It pared it all back to basics, with the Queen looking on from above.
There was a focus on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as it is 100 years since his body was transported from France to London, to represent all those who never returned.
It was a very moving service, with some wonderful prayers from the Bishop of London.
A sombre, emotional reminder of tragic loss.
