The Path Less Travelled

Well it certainly is the path less travelled by me, I've no idea where it goes to. H and I walked on a dull and overcast morning on Kelling Heath. It's a nice 2 hour walk including lots of photo stops, and isn't a bad winter walk as it's inland away from the North wind, plus it's not too wet underfoot in most places as it's quite sandy. I was trying to lead the walk today so I can do it with other people too. It's much more challenging for me walking here as there's only a few public footpaths and virtually no hard paths with signposts, plus the vague tracks you see get covered in leaves this time of year. I got most of the turnings correct though, so I was pleased. I've added an extra of some spider webs that my friend thinks looks like hammocks, no owners present fortunately but does anyone know what type of spider builds these? I mowed the lawn this afternoon as yet more rain is due. 

Day 241 / Day 7 of Lockdown 2 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 595 to 50,365 (revised basis), with 22,950 new cases, 14,196 patients in hospital and 1,219 on ventilation. New cases appear to have stabilised over the last 3 weeks or so, but have yet to start decreasing under lockdown. The milestone of 50,000 deaths was passed today, the first country in Europe to do so. This is so much higher than the 20,000 the CSA said on 17th March would be a 'good outcome'. Deaths at the start were doubling every 4 days, peaking at 1,000 deaths a day in April. It took only 11 days to go from 10,000 to 20,000 deaths. 9 in 10 deaths have been in the over 65s, 30% of deaths have been in care homes, and the North West is the worst affected area. Actual deaths are higher, with 61,648 mentioning Covid-19 on the death certificate. In context, 43,000 were thought to have died in the Blitz, 228,000 died in the Spanish Flu epidemic in the UK in 1918/19 and there are c165,000 cancer deaths annually in the UK. 

Globally total cases to date pass 52m, up 1m in 2 days. New cases in the US were 142,212 yesterday. Russia says its vaccine is 92% effective. The Deputy CMO says that vaccine development 'standards are no lower just because this is a public health emergency' and that he's told his mum to 'be ready to take this up'. A plan is in place to get University students home for xmas via mass testing and a 'student travel window'.
