Remembrance Day
I wear a poppy
in respect for our war dead.
Think of Flanders Fields.

No community services were held to mark our Remembrance Day as per the pandemic protocols in place. Where a service was held it was very small and very contained.
Normally on this day, our cenotaph would be crowded with people in uniforms of all sorts - Boy Scouts, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Cadets.....with the service held to include a time of silence at 11 AM. Today was marked without any fanfare. I was pleased to see the cenotaph decorated with so many wreaths.
The clock (with four faces) was just recently refurbished. A kind donor, who wished to remain anonymous, provided the funds. It had sat frozen in time for many years. Somehow the city could not find the funds to fix it.
Also, just recently, streets named for war veterans, have been duly noted with a red poppy on the street sign. This concept has been well received in our community. Many people have donated to have streets signs marked.
