A little light

Many people have suffered before you, many people are suffering around you and always will, and all you can do is bring, hopefully, a little light into that suffering—James Baldwin.

Tonight I went out for more night photography. So far the restaurants and bars in my neighborhood remain open, but most are empty. More than half are boarded up, having failed already, and the others look on the brink of failure. Everyone is masked and moving briskly because of the cold, and it's not looking good for us economically.

Earlier in the day I had a high-energy Zoom call with my old friend Andrea and her partner Joann in California, and Andrea's now-grown daughter Leslie, who lives in Georgia and is participating in the ballot recount and actually met Stacey Abrams in person recently. Leslie predicts that when Georgia finishes the recount, there will be an even larger win for Biden/Harris. Here’s another silver lining of this Covid nightmare: Zoom calls. Joann and Andrea just celebrated their 19th anniversary, and being able to celebrate with them and reconnect with Leslie at the same time--and actually see everyone's faces--was a joy.
