Another walk up to St. Catherine’s church in Abbotsbury. We managed to safely turn it into circular walk today which is much more appealing than a there and back! The chapel was built in the late 14 th century by Abbotsbury Abbey and was dedicated to St Catherine of Alexandria, one of the most popular saints in Medieval Britain apparently. Overlooking the sea, the chapel was used as a beacon so it survived after the Abbey was dissolved in 1539. All locked up at the moment because of COVID but it’s such a lovely, solid place. It’s empty inside but still so peaceful. Bring on the days when it can be open again.
