Mirage Gstaad

I’ve wanted to visit the artwork, Mirage Gstaad, for a while and today we decided to be tourists and do just that. Stopped for coffee in Gstaad on the way. The ‘mirage’ was created by Doug Aitken, and is the middle of a field (see extras). It is literally a house made of mirrors. It was quite busy there today and I would like to return and see it in the winter.

It was built after consultation with the Swiss bird life organisation, at which point black lines were added to stop birds flying in to it. Also a model was made beforehand to make sure that planes, neighbors etc weren’t affected by the sun’s reflections at different times of the year. It will stay in place until Feb 2021 which means that’s we will have time to visit it again.
