Monument to defenders of the Polish Post Office
A monument to the defenders of the Polish Post Office in Danzig (Gdansk), postal workers who opposed German forces in one of the first actions in World War II. On September 1, 1939, Polish personnel defended the building for about 15 hours against the SS Danzig Home Defence and others. With the exception of four defenders who were able to escape from the building during the surrender, all the staff were unjustly sentenced to death by a German court martial and executed.
