One of our Pine Siskin flock

We have never hosted Pine Siskins at our feeders before this autumn. They've absolutely taken over this year and made themselves quite at home. The flock seems to be diminished a bit in numbers this week, but many are still busy at the feeders. They vie for position, pushing out the smaller birds, but the Cardinals can overpower them! The Siskins are about the size of an American Goldfinch, not big birds, but they have big personalities and are quite tame around humans. They stick close by as I fill the feeders, even tamer than the Chickadees. Apparently their winter habitats and migratory patterns are quite fluid. I wonder if they will camp out all winter?

For the Record,
This day came in sunny and cold, a very lovely autumn day.

All hands wary
