Sad news

An English friend had told me about this couple who were cycling around the world so I checked their website from time to time to see how it was going.
I hated reading today that they were both killed by a truck in Thailand while riding their bikes the other day. I'm glad they got to go on such an adventure - it shouldn't have ended this way.
It's hard to be a cyclist lately. People are in a hurry and instead of taking care with others on the road, they swerve, yell and throw things. I've had elderly women all dressed up for church scream at me as they drive by. It's such an adversarial relationship and I really don't understand why. In the whole scheme of things, the minutes a driver loses while waiting to pass a cyclist or slowing to go around one can't really add up to much. On the other hand, look how much has been lost by a moment's inattention.
