world in a grain of sand

steamy self portrait

Oh, very droll. I bought this mirror for a fiver in a charity shop in Conwy last week and I absolutely love it. The house is so cold it was difficult to get it to look as steam covered as I wanted, so you get a glimpse of me. There isn't much space to stand out of the way in our downstairs loo!
I spent the afternoon (two and a half hours of it) in a compulsory training session on how to be appraised. I thought I would die of boredom. The main message was that we should be very glad to be paid at all and not expect to get any increments unless we had been really tip top servants of the Council when they might give us another £100 a year. It also brought home how subjective the whole process can be, for example, we were advised to keep congratulatory emails, ok if you have a gushing manager, not so easy if you have a more reticent one. I can just imagine my rather too frequent emails saying "brilliant" being lovingly stored and brought out at appraisal time...
