Congratulations
Today is the 73th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
Congratulations.
My photograph of the wedding was taken by Baron Studios where my Aunt Nellie worked for several years retouching and colouring photos.
I have previously shown photos which may have been worked on by her.
(This one, seen by some several years ago is an example of her use of colour. Coincidentally, the date is also 20 November)
The coins shown are also dated 1947, the same year, with her father King George VI on the obverse and the date on the reverse.
The coins bear the inscription IND IMP, or Emperor of India.
India achieved independence earlier in that year, so new coins would not be inscribed thus.
From 1947 onwards, all the British "silver" coins were reduced to being made in cupro-nickel, an alloy of copper and nickel with no silver content at all.
