Stick insects
Newest member of the family... or rather members... some stick insects my son has rehomed. We have three adults and lots of babies...
This morning my son and I went out - me running and him on his bike, and we did a lovely ten miles which we both really enjoyed. My son spotted a woodpecker in a tree and we stopped to watch him for a while. it was the first time he had actually seen one, and not just heard it. We travelled to a nearby lake and then we spotted a heron, which we certainly weren't expecting.
After that, we took a route home along a stream and the ground was rather a lot muddier than we had thought and by the time we got home my son was quite dirty and my new-ish trainers were certainly christened.
We then went to collect the stick insects. A dear friend of mine has a son who is friendly with mine and has stick insects, but had too many and my son desperately wanted to rescue them, so we agreed. The adults he has named Attenborough, Irwin and Bagshall (do you see the theme) and the babies, of which there are around half a dozen, are at the moment unnamed. He will get a lot of joy out of them I'm sure.
We went for a walk with puppy Raffles and collected some bramble for the insects, and headed home into the warm for the evening.
A lovely day...
