91 today
This is dad during the short time he has spent awake today, while we partied around him. So apart from the usual objections when the carers visited, he has been asleep. Particularly tired today, even as I fed him a bowl of soup and half a small kitkat at tea time, he didn't even open his eyes. He must be feeling pretty rough. The nurse has been in 3 times to administer the antibiotics, as usual, so it should be just 2 more days of that. They are so patient with him, especially as he isnt always happy with his treatment, and tells them so.
Manda brought him a birthday cake, which we all enjoyed, after singing a rousing chorus of 'Happy Birthday' but dad's eyes didn't even flicker, yet I know he was listening. He had flowers and a card hand delivered from mums friend Chris. A real shame she wasn't allowed to come in and visit him.
This 91st birthday hasn't been the perfect day, but what an amazing 91 years this man has had, living now in his 11th decade from the 1920's to the 2020's. The stories he never got round to sharing, are probably now lost forever, but there have been many we have been fortunate enough to hear, revel in and enjoy. I will keep trying to prompt him for memories, in the coming days, and converse even if he thinks I talk too much (today he choked a bit drinking lemon squash through a straw, as I held the cup to his mouth - and he said it was because I had been talking too much!! Lol)
Happy Birthday dad, you are a stubborn old bugger sometimes, but we still love you!
