Fire Station
Weekly shopping trip to Thame. Unfortunately I chose the wrong week to search out Thame Fire Station. It is being refurbished and the shiny red fire engines are parked in the town square. So nothing to distract from the four-square 1930s station building itself, and neither are there any burly firemen around.
During my first holiday in New Zealand I was rescued from a small fire in a hotel near Queenstown. The Queenstown Fire Brigade were super-efficient, arriving instantaneously. The firemen all looked as if they were international rugby players with the All Blacks. They wanted to practice by throwing guests over their shoulders and jogging outside with us. It made a deep impression!
